Ibe Kachiukwu becomes new OPEC President

The Minister of State for Petroleum resources, Ibe Kachiukwu is the new president of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC. He takes over from Diezani Alison-Madueke who emerged the first female president of the association in November last year. Congrats to him.     source: LIB

EFCC Accuses Man Of Swallowing $115,000 At The Airport

One Onwuasonya Augustine was charged to court on Tuesday by the EFCC for allegedly swallowing $115,000 to avoid declaring it to officials of the Nigeria Customs Service at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. He was arraigned along with five other alleged accomplices, Christian Okoli, Kingsley Nwokenta, aka Buchito, Nwokenta Emmanuel, Ezenwa Ikenna and Ezenwa Uzoma for the offence of money laundering The six were charged with four counts before Justice C.J. Aneke of a Federal High Court in Lagos. The agency alleged that Onwuasonya and the 5 others committed the offence on August 25, 2015, and were apprehended at Room 303 of a five-star hotel in Lagos. The sixth accused, Uzoma, was singularly charged with the offence of obstructing an NDLEA official, Bello Tsanya, in the discharge of his duty. Wall Street shares end 2014 higher

Leading US stocks closed lower on the last day of 2014, but still managed to notch overall gains for the year. The Dow Jonesfell 160 points to 17,823.07, closing below the symbolic 18,000 benchmark it hit in December. The index finished up 7.5% for 2014, its sixth straight consecutive year of gains. The broader S&P 500index shed 21.45 points to 2,058.90 and the tech-heavy Nasdaqlost 41.39 points to 4,736.05. The S&P 500 ended the year up nearly 12% and the Nasdaq was the biggest winner, gaining over 14% in 2014. It was the third consecutive year of gains for both indices. The Dow closed at a record high 38 times, while the S&P 500 did so 53 times in 2014 - buoyed by low-interest rates, the strengthening US recovery, and a flurry of corporate activity, particularly in relation to mergers and acquisitions. Poetry in motion as Bayern start pre-season

Bayern Munich begin their pre-season preparations on Wednesday with Pep Guardiola planning some poetic licence to kick off their bid to win an historic fourth straight German league title. Guardiola planned to take part in a public event on Tuesday in Munich to read love poetry by the Catalan composer Marti i Pol in an event entitled "The Poet and the Playmaker". And the 44-year-old Bayern boss will want to see plenty of creativity on the pitch when his team gets down to training.
