MOBILE Telecommunica­tion Network (MTN) has fi­nally agreed to pay the $5.2 billion (N1.4 trillion) fine slammed on it by pleading with Nigerian Communica­tions Commission (NCC) to stagger the payment. Daily Sun investiga­tion revealed that the last-minute agreement to pay followed series of meeting between MTN manage­ment team from South Af­rica and Nigeria with Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo. MTN agreed to pay the fine in the interest of its business, but pleaded with the Federal Government for a staggered payment model. A source from the Presi­dency confirmed the new arrangement and also added that the Federal Government is favourably disposed to the payment schedule, which he said, was part of the agreement reached at series of meet­ing held on Thursday and Friday in Nigeria. The management of Lacasera Company Plc has yet to comply with the order from the National Industrial Court’s ruling to recall the sacked 700 workers, seven days after. This development was confirmed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) by the Head of Education Department, National Union of Food Beverage and Tobacco Employees, (NUFBTE), Mr Mike Olanrewaju. NAN reports that the management of Lacasera had on Sept. 14 dismissed 700 workers based on what it described as invasion of its premises by hoodlums. The NIC had in its injunction restrained the management from sacking the employees and directed it to reabsorb them. “The Lacasera management has not recalled the affected workers since the court gave the order on Sept. 17, but they are making efforts to settle issues with us.’’ Olanrewaju said the union would hold a meeting before taking any action, while it would also wait for the court to hear the case.

Japanese telecoms group SoftBank Group Corp (9984.T), the majority owner of U.S. wireless carrier Sprint Corp (S.N), said it bought an additional 22.9 million shares in Sprint at a weighted average price of $3.80. Sprint's shares were up 8.2 percent at $4.20 in extended trading on Wednesday. SoftBank, which owns about 80 percent of Sprint, said the share purchases totaling about $87 million were made through subsidiary Galaxy Investment Holdings Inc. The company said it does not expect that its ownership in Sprint would increase to 85 percent or more as a result of the purchase. LONDON (Reuters) - OPEC on Tuesday raised its forecast of oil supplies from non-member countries in 2015, a sign that crude's price collapse is taking longer than expected to hit U.S. shale drillers and other competing sources. In a monthly report, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) forecast no extra demand for its crude oil this year despite faster global growth in consumption, because of higher-than-expected production from the United States and other countries outside the group. Oil LCOc1 is trading below $50 a barrel, close to its 2015 low after an 18 percent drop in July. Cholera has killed at least 18 people in Juba, capital of South Sudan, in the last three weeks and the government will step up measures to counter the spread of the disease, the health minister Riek Gai Kok said on Tuesday. Juba has seen more than 171 suspected cholera cases so far in this outbreak, the health ministry said. Last year, 167 people died in South Sudan in a cholera outbreak, the health ministry and the World Health Organisation (WHO) have said. The WHO representative in South Sudan, Tarande Manzila, said cholera treatment centres had been set up at Juba's teaching hospital and at a clinic at the UN site housing civilians.
