  • Louis van Gaal has urged Manchester United fans to boo him and not his players if they are frustrated with his team's football.
Pressure is building on Van Gaal ahead of Saturday's game with West Brom at Old Trafford as United struggle to play the kind of attacking football their supporters are used to.
Wayne Rooney applauds the fans as he walks off the pitch at Old Trafford on Tuesday eveningBut Van Gaal has requested that the brickbats come his way, saying: 'I can only advise the fans to criticise the manager and not the players.
'It's very difficult to play for Manchester United with a lot of pressure and when it is also that you taste that in Old Trafford because of all the yelling then it's not good for all my players.
'It's better to whistle at the manager. I can cope with it because I have had a lot of experience in it as my life as a manager.
'Criticism of the fans is never fair because it is a feeling of the fans and you cannot criticise the feeling of the fans.
'I think we have to play for the fans. The fans have to understand also the game and the resistance of our opponent and they also have to analyse'
United beat CSKA Moscow 1-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday with a late goal from Wayne Rooney.
Van Gaal believes that may have been a better result than it looked.
He added: 'I didn't know but I read the history of CSKA. They had played last year against Manchester City and from 0-2 they won.
'Even in the golden age of Manchester United they could not win at home against them. They were 1-3 down [in September 2009] and got a lucky 3-3 at Old Trafford.
'So we have made history this week.

I think we attacked 85 minutes of the 90 minutes, so we have given a lot of entertainment and it's dependable of the goals. When the goals are falling much faster, then everyone is happy.
'When you analyse the games, you know it's difficult to disorganise a team with 10 men behind the ball. You have to take that into account always.
'That's why coaches play these tactics against us because then we have more difficulties and they are counting always on the counter attacks and putting players in who are fast.
'Nevertheless, CSKA Moscow tried this tactic but only created one chance, so I am very happy with our defensive organisation and very happy with the way we have attacked because, at the end, we have won against a very difficult team.'
Van Gaal will give a late test to Morgan Schneiderlin, who missed the match against CSKA through illness.

He shall train today (Friday) for the first time so we have to wait and see,' Van Gaal told MUTV.
Ashley Young looks set to continue at right-back as Matteo Darmian is suspended and Antonio Valencia is still out with a foot injury.
Long-term absentees Luke Shaw and Paddy McNair remain sidelined.
