Man City Sign Fabian Delph from Aston Villa for £8m

The deal comes few days after the 25-year-old said he was staying at Villa Park, after City agreed to meet an £8m release clause on a four-and-a-half-year contract he signed in January. “He is an excellent player, I am looking forward to working with him,” City manager Manuel Pellegrini is quoted as saying by the club website. Delph, who has been handed shirt No. 18, will fly out to Australia over the weekend to join his new team-mates for pre-season training. He did not travel with Aston Villa squad to their pre-season training camp in Portugal. Aston Villa said in a statement: “Aston Villa can confirm that Fabian Delph has exercised the release clause in his contract and will join Manchester City. “We’d like to wish him success in his future career.” The former Leeds midfielder made 28 appearances for Villa last season, as they retained their top-flight status and reached the final of the FA Cup, where they were beaten 4-0 by Arsenal. He has been capped six times at full international level after earning his debut against Norway in September.
