Dinamo Zagreb fine player $110,000 for obscene gesture

Dinamo Zagreb have fined their Portuguese midfielder Paulo Machado $110,000 (70,800, 100,000 euros) after he responded to being booed by his own fans by showing them his middle finger during a Champions League game. The incident happened in the Croatian champions' third qualifying round, first leg against Norwegian outfit Molde on Tuesday, a match which finished 1-1. "I made a terrible mistake and I would like to apologise to the supporters, president, coach, the entire team and to my family as well," Machado told a press conference, according to the club's website. "It was a bad moment. I emphasise that I am sorry and that I will show on the field how much I respect both Dinamo and their supporters." Being replaced in the 65th minute of the match in Zagreb, the former Porto, Saint-Etienne, Toulouse and Olympiakos player was booed by the Dinamo fans as he left the field. He responded by showing his middle finger, immediately earning a red card for the gesture. There was speculation in local media that Machado might be sacked by the club as a result, but coach Zoran Mamic said he would stay "and face the consequences" of his behaviour. "The entire team wants Paulo to stay in the club, but of course he should be punished for the harm that he has done to the team and himself," Mamic said. The fine will be donated to charity, he added.

EFCC Accuses Man Of Swallowing $115,000 At The Airport

One Onwuasonya Augustine was charged to court on Tuesday by the EFCC for allegedly swallowing $115,000 to avoid declaring it to officials of the Nigeria Customs Service at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. He was arraigned along with five other alleged accomplices, Christian Okoli, Kingsley Nwokenta, aka Buchito, Nwokenta Emmanuel, Ezenwa Ikenna and Ezenwa Uzoma for the offence of money laundering The six were charged with four counts before Justice C.J. Aneke of a Federal High Court in Lagos. The agency alleged that Onwuasonya and the 5 others committed the offence on August 25, 2015, and were apprehended at Room 303 of a five-star hotel in Lagos. The sixth accused, Uzoma, was singularly charged with the offence of obstructing an NDLEA official, Bello Tsanya, in the discharge of his duty. CBN extends BVN registration

Following pleas from Nigerians, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has decided to extend the deadline for the registration for Bank Verification Number (BVN) by another four months. Bank customers who are yet to register now have till October 30 to do so, reports Daily Post. The extension followed the uncontrolled crowd at the different branches of Nigerian banks that has made business transactions almost impossible. The apex bank in a circular to the banks directed them to extend the timeline to their customers to enable them have the BVN. The extension would also give Nigerian bank customers in the Diaspora ample time to register.
