University workers threaten strike

Activities in federal universities may once again be disrupted following threats by workers to embark on an indefinite strike, reports Tribune. The workers, under the aegis of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and other non-teaching staff are poised for a showdown with the federal government over plans to remove the university staff school from the budget of various federal universities. Samson Ugwoke, SSANU President said the union has already mobilized all its members from the states to federal levels to prepare for a prolonged strike. He urged President Muhammadu Buhari to call the National Universities Commission (NUC) to rescind the decision. He noted that over 2 000 teachers would lose their jobs if the Federal Government scrapped the staff schools across the country.
