INEC approves 88 election observers

88 observer groups have been given approval by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to monitor the 2015 February general elections The groups according to the commission met the requirements and guidelines it issued for accreditation of observers. The commission in a statement on its website, inec.org, said the groups were to obtain and complete form EPMC 02 for the elections from the Elections and Party Monitoring Department, INEC Headquarters, Maitama, Abuja, between 8am and 4pm from Monday to Friday, starting from January 15 to 26, 2015. The commission added that in order to ensure prompt and efficient processing of ID cards, it called on all the accredited observer groups to compile the photographs of their members with the names and submit hard and soft copies to the commission before January 26.

50-Year-Old Trader Docked Over Alleged Theft Of Flat Screen TV, Laptop

A 50-year-old woman, Bukola Awolu, has appeared before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly breaking into an apartment and stealing valuables including a laptop valued at N168, 000. Awolu, a trader, who resides in Oyo State, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and break-in. The Prosecutor, Insp. Feddy Asu, told the court that the offences were committed on Feb. 26 at No. 36, Niger St., off Odaliki Street, Ebute Meta. Asu alleged that the woman broke into the apartment of one Mr. Rasaki Obafemi and made away with an LG flat screen TV and a laptop all valued at N168, 000. He noted that the offences contravened Sections 285 and 305(b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 prescribes three years imprisonment for stealing, while Section 305 (b) provides seven years for housebreaking.
